Faluma’s 5th Anniversary

Today is the day: exactly five years ago, on July the 17th 2003 German Soca-DJ Martin Stahl aka Marflix founded his company Faluma. His aim was to boost and promote the pulsating rythms of the Caribbean Carnival and make them easily accessible in Germany and around the World.
Only a few months later Johannes Kückens, Soca-DJ as well as founder of the most important German online forum for Caribbean music dancehallmusic.de, joined the company as an associate.

Faluma.com began as a small side business driven by the founders’ passion for music but soon flourished to the favourite online store for lovers of Soca, Calypso and Pan-music all over the world. People from Europe, Japan, the USA and Canada became regular customers, happy to find rare vinyls and hard-to-get albums. Nowadays Faluma offers a huge selection of CDs, Vinyls and DVDs not only from the heart of the Caribbean Carnival: Trinidad & Tobago, but also from Barbados and smaller islands like Antigua, Dominica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Thomas and the VIs, Martinique or Grenada and even some European Soca productions from Germany and Sweden.

In 2006, with the growing importance of audio downloads, the label Faluma Digital was founded and ever since became a major field of activity. Today well-known bands, producers and solo-artists like Krosfyah, Major & minor Productions and Shurwayne Winchester released MP3 versions of their songs or even their complete backcatalogs on Faluma Digital. This paved the way for an even better international availability of our favourite songs and helped Caribbean artists be credited for their music.

Am 17. Juli 2003 gründete der Berliner Soca-DJ Martin Stahl alias Marflix die Firma Faluma, um die pulsierende Musik des karibischen Carnivals auch deutschen Haushalten zu Verfügung zu stellen.
Ein paar Monate später stieg Johannes Kückens mit ein, ebenfalls Soca-DJ und Betreiber der größten deutschsprachigen Plattform für karibische Musik, dancehallmusic.de.

Was als kleiner Nebenerwerb aus Leidenschaft anfing, entwickelte geradezu ein Eigenleben:
Schnell wurde der online Shop faluma.com zu der beliebten Adresse für Soca, Calypso und Pan-Liebhaber in ganz Europa, Japan und Kanada. Machte Faluma sich in den Anfangstagen einen Namen als Spezialisten für Vinyl und Raritäten, bietet heute der Shop Tonträger aller Art aus der ganzen Karibik: von Antigua über Dominica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Thomas and the VIs, Martinique, Grenada und Barbados bis nach Trinidad und Tobago, dem Herzen des karibischen Carnivals.
Mit der zunehmenden Bedeutung von Audiodownloads wurde Ende 2006 Faluma um das Label Faluma Digital erweitert, das mittlerweile mp3s von vielen namhaften Bands wie Krosfyah, Shurwayne Winchester, Destra in den wichtigsten Download-Plattformen verfügbar macht. Kooperationen mit wichtigen Produzenten aus der ganzen englischsprachigen Karibik waren die Folge.

Aus Anlass unseres 5. Jubiläums wird demnächst eine kleine Feier stattfinden für alle Freunde von Faluma und karibischer Carnivalsmusik um auf die nächsten fünf Jahre anzustoßen und das Tanzbein zu schwingen. Nähere Infos folgen bald!
